Troubleshooting and maintenance of charger charging indicator light faults

The troubleshooting and maintenance of faults in the charging indicator light of electric vehicle chargers can be approached from the following aspects:

Troubleshooting steps

Check the power supply and sockets

Confirm the power supply of the socket: If the output voltage of a household socket is low, it may be due to a loose connection of the circuit or insufficient capacity of the transformer. It is necessary to check whether the socket and switch connections are stable and reconnect them if necessary.

Grounding wire inspection: Although sockets without grounding wires do not affect the use of three-prong plug appliances, they pose safety hazards. When using a portable charger, make sure it is connected to a socket with a ground wire.

Check the charging cable and interface

Cable connection inspection: Incorrect connection of charging cables may cause malfunctions. It is necessary to check whether the cables are securely connected and reinsert them if necessary.

Interface status check: Inspect the charging interface for any foreign objects, damage or oxidation. Clean or replace the interface if necessary.

Check the switch of the charging connection device

Switch status confirmation: If the switch of the charging connection device is pressed, charging will stop. The switch needs to be pressed again to start charging.

Check the status of the power battery

Temperature monitoring: When the temperature of the power battery is too high, charging will automatically stop to ensure safety. Charging can only be resumed after the battery cools down to an appropriate temperature.

Check for faults in the vehicle or charging pile

Fault prompt confirmation: When a charging pile or vehicle malfunctions, the charging indicator light will turn red. It is necessary to check whether the charging pile has a fault prompt or try charging at another charging pile.

Check the indicator light circuit

Circuit inspection: If there is a fault in the charging indicator light circuit, such as an open power cord, a burned bulb, a blown fuse or a loose plug, etc., a multimeter or other tools should be used to check the circuit status.

Relay inspection: For faults in the charging relay, such as excessive adjustment of the contact closing voltage, insufficient electromagnetic attraction generated by the coil, contact erosion, oxidation or poor contact, etc., it is necessary to check the working condition of the relay.

Voltage regulator inspection: For faults in the alternator and voltage regulator, such as erosion and oxidation of the voltage regulator contacts, breakdown or failure of the alternator diodes, etc., it is necessary to check the working status of the voltage regulator and the generator.

Maintenance method

Replace the faulty component

Indicator light circuit maintenance: If the power cord of the charging indicator light is open-circuited, the bulb is burned out, the fuse is blown or the plug is loose, etc., the corresponding parts need to be replaced.

Charging relay maintenance: If the closing voltage of the charging indicator relay contacts is over-adjusted, the electromagnetic attraction generated by the coil is insufficient, the contacts are eroded, oxidized or have poor contact, etc., the relay needs to be replaced or repaired.

Maintenance of alternators and voltage regulators: If the contacts of the voltage regulator are burned and oxidized, or the diodes of the alternator are broken down or fail, etc., the relevant components need to be replaced or repaired.

Check the charging connection device

Switch status check: If the switch of the charging connection device is pressed, charging will stop. The switch needs to be pressed again to start charging.

Check the status of the power battery

Temperature check: When the temperature of the power battery is too high, the combination instrument will display an alarm indicator light and the charging will automatically stop. You need to wait for the battery to cool down naturally before charging.

Check the status of the vehicle or charging pile

Compatibility check of charging piles: Charging pile failure, protocol mismatch or being too old may cause charging failure. It is necessary to confirm whether the charging pile has a fault prompt or try to charge with another charging pile.

Vehicle battery inspection: A damaged vehicle battery may also cause the charging indicator light to malfunction. It is necessary to contact an authorized car service store for inspection in a timely manner and replace the battery if necessary.

Maintenance method

Circuit repair

Open circuit handling: If the power cord of the charging indicator light is open-circuited or the fuse is blown, a fuse of the same specification should be replaced and the relevant components should be checked for damage.

Poor contact repair: Inspect the components around the high-voltage area of the circuit board for false soldering. If necessary, re-solder them.

Component replacement

Indicator light replacement: If the bulb is burned out, a bulb of the same model needs to be replaced.

Relay replacement: If the charging relay malfunctions (such as excessive adjustment of the contact closing voltage, insufficient electromagnetic attraction of the coil, contact erosion and oxidation, etc.), it should be promptly replaced or repaired at a 4S store.

Voltage regulator inspection: If the alternator or the voltage regulator malfunctions (such as voltage regulator contact ablation and oxidation, alternator diode breakdown or failure, etc.), it is necessary to go to the 4S store for replacement or repair in a timely manner.

Maintenance method

Circuit maintenance

If there is an open circuit or poor contact in the charging indicator light circuit (such as an open power cord, a burned bulb, a blown fuse or a loose plug, etc.), the relevant circuit needs to be inspected and repaired.

Use a multimeter to check the working status of the charging indicator light circuit. After confirming the fault point, carry out targeted maintenance.

Component replacement

If the charging relay malfunctions (such as excessive adjustment of the contact closing voltage, insufficient electromagnetic attraction of the coil, contact erosion and oxidation, etc.), the relay needs to be replaced.

When the fuse blows, it should be replaced with a new fuse of the same amperage and the relevant components should be checked for damage.

Professional maintenance

If the problem cannot be solved by yourself, such as faults in the alternator and voltage regulator (such as erosion and oxidation of the voltage regulator contacts, breakdown of the generator diode, etc.), it is necessary to go to the 4S store in time for replacement or repair.

If the vehicle or the charging pile malfunctions (such as a mismatch in the charging pile agreement, damage to the vehicle battery, etc.), you need to contact an authorized car service store for inspection and repair, or try charging at another charging pile.
